Son of Everhard Jan Witsonborg Chief Justice of the Province of Drenthe. Knight of the Order of the Netherland Lion and of the Metal Cross. Joined in 1801 as cadet the 3rd Batallion of Engineers of the Batavian Republic at Zutphen. Commissioned in 1806. Joined the French Army under General Michaud near Wesel in Germany. Battle of Grosz-Berkel against the Prussians. built Fort-Napoleon near Buderich in Germany in 1812. Promoted Captain of the Staff of the Imperial "Corps du Genie". Was ordered in 1813 to destroy the town of Buderich. Assisted with distinction in the defence of Wesel in 1814. Joined the forces of the Prince of Orange in 1814. Took a prominent part in the construction of the principal defensive works of Holland and in the settlement of the frontiers with Hannover. Was in command of Ostend in 1830. Major in 1829. Lt. Colonel in 1837. Colonel in 1843. Majoor General in 1849. His daughter Johanna married in 1863 Hendrikus Matheus Leonardus Oudendijk.Witsenborg huwde in 1817 Johanna Susanna Sibilla Hagenberg bij wie hij twaalf kinderen verwekte. Bij zijn overlijden waren nog één zoon en vier dochters in leven.
